FPI Registration Certificate (original as well as name change) to be granted by DDPs – Recent amendment to SEBI FPI Operational Guidelines

The Operational Guidelines for Foreign Portfolio Investors, Designated Depository Participants and Eligible Foreign Investors, dated 5 November 2019 (‘Operational Guidelines’) have been amended vide SEBI Circular dated 29 April 2022, whereby the FPI Registration Certificate to be granted by DDPs shall now bear the registration number generated by SEBI (this was earlier to be centrally generated by NSDL).

Further, vide an earlier MoF Notification dated 29 March 2022, the Common Application Form for FPIs was amended and both depositories (i.e. NSDL and CDSL) have been permitted to host the CAF for FPI registration. Accordingly, as per the amended Operational Guidelines both depositories (i.e. NSDL and CDSL) as applicable in each case, can make arrangements for DDPs to provide fresh registration certificate upon receipt of a name change request.
