It was in the news that Blackstone India part of US headquarter investment company has decided to launch its first retail property centred REIT in 2022. Blackstone India is in the process of gathering its real estate portfolio of commercial assets, malls etc.
REIT is nothing but Real Estate Investment Trust that owns, operates and manages income producing real estate assets. Concept of REIT is relatively new to the Indian investment ecosystem.
It would be interesting to see its entry into retail segment. Retail REIT will allow individual investors to make investment in this platform and earn income from investment in the form of rental yields and also capital appreciation.
As India has huge consumption appetite. It would be exiting specially post covid, to see such different investment products.
While such investment options look jazzy, especially retail investors should be aware of the risks involved, tax implications etc. before they jump into the pool.
